FURTHER REEDING is a non-chronological podcast about the life and work of notorious hellraiser OLIVER REED. From the mid-1950s until his death in 1999 Reed starred in dozens of projects of all budgets and genres, from twisted rock operas (Ken Russell’s TOMMY) to Italian action epics (Sergio Sollima’s REVOLVER); from swinging London crime capers (Michael Winners’ THE JOKERS) to Hollywood historical epics (Ridley Scott’s GLADIATOR), but his exploits onscreen could hardly compare with his off-screen escapades, where a fiery temper and substance abuse issues kept Reed’s name continuously in the news. In this podcast we’re going to look at the man alongside his work, keeping our tone light (while occasionally plumbing depths) as we dissect the career of the controversial, towering actor.
