Jackie Chan finally gets his shot at being the new Bruce Lee in Lo Wei’s direct sequel to his original martial arts masterpiece FIST OF FURY. But is the oft-quoted story about Chan’s failure at becoming a Chinese superman true, or is reality a bit more complex? On this episode of WE DO OUR OWN STUNTS we examine how the plot and purpose of NEW FIST OF FURY has been a bit misrepresented, a fact compounded by a 1980 re-edit that puts Jackie Chan front and center. Let’s check it out!

A triumphant return for Cinema Smorgasbord after a week hiatus, and we bring with us both tales of Liam moving his family to a new state, as well as Barry Jenkins’ first feature film: the 2008 romantic-drama Medicine For Melancholy. Starring Wyatt Cenac and Tracey Heggins, the movie traces the aftermath of a one-night-stand as two characters wander San Francisco and discuss relationships, race and gentrification. But is it a forgotten gem? Listen and find out!

Hi all!

Liam is currently moving his family to a new state (with, presumably, the cops hot on his tail), and we planned ineffectively so didn’t have an episode ready this week. Instead, we’ve decided to throw up one of the fine, FINE podcasts available on the Cinepunx Network: Horror Business – also featuring Liam O’Donnell as well as Justin Lore.

If you dig it, be sure to check out more of Horror Business at http://www.cinepunx.com/podcast-episodes/horror-business/ or subscribe on iTunes at https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/horror-business/id1078298109.

Recognizing that despite the varied lineup of podcasts on the Cinema Smorgasbord network we didn’t have one devoted to a black filmmaker we’ve decided to launch The Films of John Singleton, a short-term podcast project covering the entire filmography of the late director. On our first episode we examine Singleton’s first and last films, starting with the incredible Boyz n The Hood (for which he became the first black director to be nominated for Best Director at the Oscars, as well as being the youngest ever nominee) followed by the Taylor Lautner action vehicle Abduction from 2011.
