We made it! Ten(-ish) movies deep, Jackie Chan’s career is floundering. Desperate for a hit, Lo Wei pairs him with James Tien and Bruce Leung for a western-inspired fantasy action epic featuring bizarre twists, excessive face-ripping, and music shamelessly stolen from Star Wars and.. heck.. let’s make the whole thing 3D! MAGNIFICENT BODYGUARDS may have been Jackie’s final film before his breakthrough role in SNAKE IN THE EAGLE’S SHADOW, but it’s far from forgettable. Let’s check it out!

It’s not only the return of ERIC ROBERTS IS THE (bad word) MAN, it’s also the return of the STALKED BY MY DOCTOR SERIES with 2021’s JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED. A return to the heady days of the original STALKED films, this time we have Dr. Albert Beck hiding out in an abandoned house.. but not for long! We also talk at length about a newly launched Eric Roberts-related podcast that WE ARE ANGRY ABOUT, the latest Eric Roberts tweets, and SO MUCH NEWS. We’re joined on our journey by musician and podcaster Mike Paulshock, who discusses his love for the STALKED series and its lead actor: ERIC ROBERTS. Time to start listening!

Nothing in your education or experience could prepare you for Alejandro Jodorowsky’s THE HOLY MOUNTAIN and on this episode of JodoWOWsky we’re going long on one of the strangest, most unique, most transformative films ever made. We start by discussing Jodorowsky’s career post-El Topo and the preparation for – and influences on – THE HOLY MOUNTAIN, before we dive into the film proper, discussing our thoughts, interpretations and feelings about each section. We finish with the film’s post-production and wide ranging influences: from Kanye West, to Beyonce, to MGMT and beyond!

Your hosts are Cinema Smorgasbord regulars Doug Tilley (@Doug_Tilley) and Liam O’Donnell (@LiamRulz), but they are joined on this adventure by the always wonderful and incisive Julia Marchese!

Julia is a filmmaker, actor, writer, film programmer and podcaster. Julia’s first film was Out of Print, a documentary about the importance of revival cinema and 35mm to culture. The film has played all over the world in film archives, art house cinemas and universities. The 35mm print of the film is now housed at The Academy Film Archives. Her next project is a short film adaptation of Stephen King’s short story “I Know What You Need”. She is the co-host of Horror Movie Survival Guide, a weekly podcast that takes a deep dive into a different horror film each week, focusing on how to become the final girl. On HOW DO YOU DO, FELLOW KIDS? we look at the life and career of beloved oddball character actor Steve Buscemi, and on this episode we go all the way back to 1987 and Peter Ily Huemer’s neon-soaked noirish “thriller” KISS DADDY GOODNIGHT! Featuring Uma Thurman making her feature film debut, as well as forgotten Dillon sibling Paul Dillon, the movie is meandering, ugly and tedious, but manages to capture a uniquely grimy aesthetic at times. Also, STEVE BUSCEMI is in it! CHECK IT OUT!
